The problem is too much TouchWiz for the hardware. (Yes, I have turned off animations in the developer options.) The same apps run fine on my GS4.Įven just in the general UI, the 10.1 feels like it's a step behind: the Home button lags for a second before it does anything, the unlock screen lags for 1-2 seconds before unlocking, etc. Sometimes I think an app has crashed, but then it responds. Even in simple apps, there are lags: tap app menu icon > wait a second > menu appears. In games, the tablet freezes and stutters. The overdone UI causes performance problems as well. I could not delete all of the pre-loaded Magazine screens, though I had to leave one blank, ugly blue home screen that can only be used for Magazine widgets. Since the widgets suck, I removed all of them. The Flipboard ones frequently don't update, the calendar shows a calendar but not your events, etc. This would be less annoying if the widgets actually worked or were useful, but no. You have to leave at least one Magazine home screen, even if you have killed all of the Magazine widgets. This consists of several home screens that are only able to show giant, useless Flipboard and social media widgets. The biggest offender is Magazine (which cannot be disabled without rooting). HOWEVER - those pros are outweighed by the performance hit from the heavy-handed TouchWiz overlay and their so-called "Magazine UI." It has a lot of good points: the specs are top-notch, the screen is superb, and *some* of the Sammy add-ons are useful. It's a good tablet, but it could have been so much better.
